Realizing Education Assistance Partially (REAP)

Realizing Education Assistance Partially (REAP) is a charitable project aimed at reaching out to financially poor students from background places. Our mission is to facilitate caring and sharing for financially poor students to achieve the dream of higher education by providing educational assistance. Currently, the project focusses on reaching out to the students of Idukki district, Kerala, India.

Why REAP?

ICON Charities realizes that education is the key towards the development of backward places. We work with the people and charitable organizations in the financially backward areas, and perform research to bring people and organizations together to find solutions for the issues faced by the financially poor students. Inability of families to support their children's educational cost because of financial difficulties prevents them from persuing their higher education. ICON aims at creating awareness at a global level about the needs of these poor students. ICON acts as the facilitator and connects the donor and the beneficiary to help the students realize the dream of higher education.

REAP project is designed

• as a 100% IN-OUT charity project. Every dollar that you contribute reaches the beneficiary without any overhead cost. The operating costs are not taken from your donations.
• as a 'Donor Driven' project rather than the 'Channel or Organization driven' project. The Donor has maximum flexibility to decide how the scholarship is operated.
• to be a very open and transparent project. Everyone gets to see every transaction using the trail of your donations feature. The accounts will be published and audited by the public. The donor has the ability to contact the end beneficiary directly.
• as a low budget project to accommodate maximum number of people to be involved in the project.
• to follow the full charity life cycle and will invest heavily on awareness and follow-up to its donors.
• to be a well coordinated project globally and would involve people from all walks of life.
• as a non-discriminatory project focused on the most needed students from backward places.

Yes, I am interested. What should I do?

ICON Charities maintains a list of students who require financial assistance. Due to privacy reasons, we do not publish the entire list on the web starting from REAP 2008. If you would like to support students from this list,

(1) Please let us know your preferences (ex. support a nursing female student) by completing the 'Pledge Form'. We will identify the closest match from the list based on your criteria and send you the profile of the student.
(2) Once a student is selected, pledge the amount you would like to provide to the student. The amount that is provided is totally decided by the donor.
(3) Specify the name of the scholarship. This can you used to track the trail of your donation from the time you made the donation to the time when the student receives the assistance.
